Marketing with perspective. Strategy with purpose.

Business owners are hearing new terms such as answer engine optimization and generative engine optimization. The names can make AI search visibility sound like a completely separate discipline, with a new set of tricks required to be noticed.

A more useful starting point is the information your business makes available. Can someone clearly understand what you do, who you serve, and why your explanation deserves consideration?

Keep the fundamentals in view

Google’s guidance on generative AI features emphasizes established search fundamentals and does not require special schema markup for those features. That guidance applies to Google; other platforms have their own systems and controls. No consultant can guarantee that a particular answer will mention your business.

Focus on understandable, accessible information before buying into promises of automatic inclusion. Technical access matters, but access alone does not create useful content or guarantee visibility.

Explain your expertise with substance

Review important service pages and educational resources. Do they answer actual questions? Do they explain tradeoffs and limitations? Is the business identity consistent across the site? Are relevant qualifications presented accurately?

Specific explanations help a reader assess credibility. A page that describes how an assessment works, what information it considers, and what decisions it supports is more useful than a page filled with broad claims about innovation.

Make the structure support understanding

Use descriptive headings and coherent sections. Keep important information in readable text. Link related resources where they genuinely help someone investigate further. Avoid adding repetitive questions or awkward keyword variations solely to imitate a presumed algorithm preference.

Review older content for contradictions. An outdated service description can create confusion even when a newer page is accurate. Consistency should come from maintaining reliable information, not repeating the same slogan everywhere.

Measure with appropriate caution

Record relevant referral traffic and ask prospects how they found you, while recognizing the limits of self-reported and platform data. A manual search or prompt is a snapshot, not a complete visibility score. Results can vary, and an isolated mention does not prove business impact.

Evaluate whether visibility is helping the right people understand your business and start useful conversations. Continue to assess organic search, paid media, direct visits, and customer outcomes together.

Jennifer approaches emerging search behavior through the same broader lens as other marketing decisions: the customer need, the evidence, and the business opportunity. New discovery experiences are worth understanding without losing sight of clarity and credibility.
